Statistic show that eighty percent of injuries occurring in over 65’s is due to falls. Of these eighty percent hips account for 50 percent.
Reports also show a sharp increase in the prevalence of falls in middle aged people particularly amongst women. This supports the notion that falls are not just a problem of old age and that middle age may be a critical life stage for preventative intervention.
Now is the time to take action. Come and belong to a group of people taking care of themselves and have fun in the process.
Pilates caters for everyone, from beginner to advanced. You can perform exercises using your own body weight or with the help of various pieces of equipment. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and abdominal muscle control. Pilates lengthens and stretches all the major muscle groups in the body in a balanced fashion. It improves flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness. Pilates can be either aerobic or non-aerobic. Concentration and focus is required as your body moves through a precise range of motion.
Pilates is an exercise that tones, strengthens, burns fat and boosts mental health.
Cognitive decline is a growing concern worldwide. Studies have shown that exercise has the potential to improve cognitive ability in people with mild cognitive impairment.
Both aerobic and resistance training has been reported to enhance mental performance.
In a class there is the added benefit of socialising with others. The sense of being accepted and of belonging can change behaviours, beliefs and attitudes. Here at Sunshine Coast Health Services we believe that everyone has value and everyone deserves to be the best version of themselves.
